Honey
from $6.50

Mill Run Honey

All our honey is ‘wildflower’ honey—a mix of nectars from the many plants in our area visited by the bees throughout the Spring and Summer. These include basswood, locust and orchard trees, clovers, thyme, coneflowers, milkweed, thistle, sedum, goldenrod, asters, and many, many more! We think once you taste the wonderful flavor and sweetness of Mill Run Honey, you’ll never go back to store bought. It’s sort of like tasting that fresh-picked heirloom tomato from your own garden or from the farmer’s market and comparing it to one from the grocery. As we like to say, our honey is all-natural, “just the way the bees make it.”

Many people use local honey for their seasonal allergy symptoms. Our natural honey is filtered but contains microscopic amounts of pollen from the plants the bees have visited. Honey purchased at the grocery is pressure-filtered and heated and so has very little intact pollen remaining. Raw honey, because of its high pollen content, will crystallize more readily than grocery honey, but this can be easily remedied by heating the jar of honey gently in a pan of warm water.

Our standard containers are 0.3# (3.75oz volume) and 1# (12oz) glass hex jars, 1.375# (16oz) round pint glass jars; and 1, 2, or 5# BPA-free plastic squeeze bottles with a convenient flip cap. Local customers can call or email to arrange pick-up, as noted on our order page.  We only offer the shipping option for honey ordered in plastic containers. However you may contact us if you'd like to arrange for shipping of honey in glass containers (see Order Page for details).

Mill Run Lip Balm and Hand Cream

Beeswax has been used for thousands of years to soften skin and treat various skin irritations and infections. We use “cappings” to make our all natural lip balm and hand cream. Cappings are the wax that the bees use to seal up the honey in the honeycomb. When we harvest the honey, we first have to “uncap” it using a heated knife to shear off the wax caps over the honeycomb. This capping wax is light yellow and will have a slightly different color and smell based on what the bees have been harvesting. We melt this wax down and filter it several times to ensure we have the finest, cleanest, all natural beeswax for our products. We only use beeswax from our hives in our products, and make each product in small batches, adding other all natural and, if available, organic ingredients to make our lip balms and hand cream.
